What Legislation Applies to Us?

By Robert Levene of the Federation of Private Residents’ Associations

I was asked this question recently by two different FPRA members, and these two members could not have been more different. One was a purpose-built block of six flats, self managed, and the second was a large estate with more than 50 flats, garages, grounds, porter etc.

The list of legislation that could affect our members is extensive, so with the help of ARMA, we are listing below all those that come to mind. This is (despite its length) still not certain to cover every FPRA member and every Act of Parliament that could apply. Many items on the list will not apply to your particular Association, but some may surprise you. Please do not let this worry you. We are publishing the list out of interest, not to cause even more headaches to those who run residents’ associations on a part-time, voluntary basis.
