What is ELTO?

Employers’ Liability Tracing Office

From Spring 2011, ELTO replaces the current voluntary Employers’ Liability Code of Practice (ELCOP) tracing service, which has been in place since 1999 and has helped around 20,000 claimants trace the EL insurer to pursue a claim.

Why does ELTO exist?

ELTO is a proactive move by the insurance industry to meet its obligations to help those who have suffered injury or disease in the workplace to identify the relevant insurer quickly and efficiently. The information will be held on a centralised database – The Employer’s Liability Database (ELD).

 

What Residentsline will be doing:-

For all our policyholders with Employers Liability Insurance, we will be providing details of the Company Name, Address and Postcode and asking you for an ERN, if you have employees, to pass on to the ELTO.

What is the ERN?

Each organisation operating a PAYE scheme is allocated an ERN. This is the reference number for their employee’s income tax and national insurance contributions; also commonly referred to as ‘Employer PAYE Reference’

 Where can you find the ERN -

 The ERN is shown on the P45, P60, P11/D and most payslips.
